7-mode/HA pair/V-Series : Volumes : Snapshot management : Understanding Snapshot copies : Flexible volume space guarantees

Flexible volume space guarantees
You can control the type of space reservation that your FlexVol volumes use by setting a space guarantee. Space guarantee is not available for traditional volumes. Space guarantees are disabled for FlexVol volumes that are SnapMirror destinations. Space guarantees are also disabled for FlexVol volumes with a fractional reserve other than 100 (the default setting).
You can choose one of the following settings for the space guarantee.
Volume
Volume is the default setting. You can use this setting to guarantee that there are enough data blocks available in the containing aggregate to meet the entire flexible volume's needs. The pre-allocated space cannot be allocated to any other volume in that aggregate.
File
You can use the file setting to guarantee there are enough blocks in the containing aggregate to meet the needs of the specified files in the flexible volume.
None
If you use the none setting, there are no guarantees that there will be enough blocks in the containing aggregate to meet the flexible volume's needs.
Because out-of-space errors are unexpected in a CIFS environment, do not set the space guarantee to none for volumes accessed using CIFS.
Space guarantees are honored only for online volumes. If you take a volume offline, any committed but unused space for that volume becomes available for other volumes in that aggregate. When you bring that volume back online, if there is not enough available space in the aggregate to fulfill its space guarantees, you must use the force (-f) option to disable the volume's space guarantees in order to bring the volume back online.
